Another “food court” in a market. So much to see, hard to decide. Not fully open yet.

Across the river from our apartment building; it was a mess when we first got there. Some workers arrived in January and started cleaning it up. It’s on the Ping River less than one km south of Chiang Mai main area.

Our apartment building. It has 19 floors, our aparment is on 14th floor, just below the redish satellite antenna, which belonged to our apartment! We had Thai cable TV and ThaiComm satellite.

Ancient City
Ancient City
Modern population of the area began nearly 800 years ago. The original settlers from the “north”, came down the Ping River and settled Wiang Kum Kam in a location about 3 km south of Chiang Mai and across the Ping River. The leader then started what is now called Old Chiang Mai, and designated Wiang Kum Kam as a shipping center. The river will not now support shipping, but it used to do so. One of several floods, a big one, occurred about 400 years ago and burried Wiang Kum Kam under mud and muck. The river changed course. In 1996 excavation began.

After excavation … look on the left to see the current level, that’s how much mud and muck was deposited!
